There's all sorts of new developments coming soon, so keep an eye on their website at www.optentia.co.za

In production: video series on Community Engagement

February 29, 2016

I'm currently working a new video series that looks at a few of the programmes that form part of the NWU's Community Engagement and research implementation. The first few clips should go live on YouTube soon and I'm very pleased with the results. I decided to put away the zoom lenses and shoot the majority of my footage with primes, and I'm glad I did because the depth of field is awesome and it is exactly the look I was going for!

More on this project coming soon.

From YouTube: things that go bang

February 29, 2016
Ok so it's no secret that I like GoPros and all things military - I have clients in the defense industry, so that's my excuse...

So what better then than a combination of the two. Yes folks, GoPro jets are back!

As always, kill the sound and watch the visuals, because apparently jet jocks have terrible taste in production music. This time it is footage of an aircraft that is currently at the center of a bit of controversy due to it's looming retirement. The A-10 Thunderbolt II has the insanely...

A Joyful Sound

February 11, 2016

I've waited a very long time to get this on YouTube. I'm sure a lot of people has. And judging by the reaction we got yesterday on social media and on the internet, whatever we did worked really well.

A beautiful documentary on the uplifting power of music — the South African Music Outreach Project, brainchild of former...

The face behind the voice (now you know)

February 11, 2016

www.yolandamaartens.co.za

Yolanda Maartens Brown proves two things: that life is really unfair and some people are blessed with everything (looks, voice and intelligence), and that whoever said "I have a face for radio" was grossly inaccurate and has never been to OFM. If you've seen any of my videos you've probably heard her, because she's been my go to gal for voice-overs since...well forever (Hey, if Quentin Tarantino insists on working with Uma Thurman, then surely I can insist on working with Yollie!)

But seriou...

Welcome to February

February 3, 2016
Welcome to the first post for February. Yes, we're already in the second month of this year. Lots of things are happening this month: the new Deadpool movie is coming out (I'm a huge fan of all things Marvel, and especially all things 'Pool) and there are enough looming project deadlines to keep me mildly worried and awake at this time of the evening.

If you've been following my blog you'll know by now that Match Frame Media is now supporting a Gauteng-based Non-Profit called Counselling@, and...

YouTube Closed Captioning

January 27, 2016

I was on YouTube just now when I clicked the Closed Captioning button by accident. And I'm quite impressed by the results on this specific clip. YouTube CC has probably been around for a while and like most automatic translation it does misinterpret a word or two, but the majority is dead on. Pretty impressive.

If you want to see the whole clip, click https://youtu.be/yDa5Mk2LD2I

Photographers vs. Videographers (Parody)

January 17, 2016

I don't do weddings (Ok...I've done two but it was for family only) and I'm not too keen on doing corporate functions either because they feel like you're doing a wedding. I have however done a handful of the latter on special request from clients, so I have experienced first hand the seething hatred and distrust that radiates between photographer and videographer at these events.

Seriously who shows up for work with a camera without a tripod and headsets?! Those are the ultimate symbols of me...

Self-employed (and still loving it!)

January 12, 2016
This year I'm celebrating six years of self-employment. It's been fantastic, terrifying and enormously fulfilling. Quite a contrast to the very controlled ten years I spent working for a boss in a large organisation.

What has changed? Everything and nothing.

Everything because once you've tasted freedom you can never go back to working for someone else. You change. You can't stand being back in the sheep enclosure...it suffocates you! Never before have I had so much enjoyment and satisfaction ...

First Counselling@ video on YouTube

January 9, 2016

Here is the first video in the series. The second clip will be on their YouTube channel soon. Counselling@ does some really valuable work in disadvantaged communities and schools, so how about supporting them. Given the amount of bad news in the media, we can all do with a few more good deeds everywhere.

Ready, set, go! A brand new lineup for the year

January 4, 2016
Ok, enough with the holiday laziness already. I have a good feeling about this year. See, I have this theory: in business one year is up, the other down. Last year was s**t horrible, so I predict a VERY up year this year. As in waaaay up. On the top shelf...

Currently in production is a large project for the Faculty of Education. We managed to finish the first portion of this project in record time towards the end of 2015, and the results are on YouTube.

Also, just to show that DVD is far from ...
