It all starts here - the 2013 NWU promo

April 16, 2013

I had the privilege of creating an "official" NWU promo in 2011. So when the folks at NWU Institutional Advancement phoned me up a while ago to ask for a new one I was overjoyed to have an opportunity to try and see if I could come up with something completely new and original. The NWU's CID had changed since 2011 and there was now a new payoff line and a brand new set of design elements and visual style to play with. The clip was originally created for and shown for the first time at ...

Remember when we did that?

April 11, 2013
I've been building a substantial library of pictures taken on various shoots and projects since 2011. A few of them found their way onto my Facebook page where you might have spotted them.

I've now created a new page on this site with a gallery of some of the best ones. Keep in mind they are mobile phone pics shot on three different phones since 2011 (Geez did I really go through that many phones!) and they were shot with one hand on the video camera in most cases. So don't expect art. But the...

A blast from the past

The friendly folks over at the NWU School of Music has informed me that the flash mob we shot last year has now reached 3000 views on YouTube. Well done all! Now, how do we improve on this...?

In production

March 29, 2013

Above: Filming master pianist Lukas Vondracek in Bloemfontein for an upcoming documentary

This month is speeding to an end and if I could I would have added a couple more days to the end of it just to get everything done! March 2013 has by far been one of the most productive months in MFM's history with a number large projects for different clients currently in production.

Remote control...from your phone

March 15, 2013

This is nothing new, but it is still really cool isn't it? Remote control via the GoPro Wifi back and the official Android app. Close-to-realtime preview at 720p25. I can't wait to get my hands on a Hero3 Black with built-in Wifi though. The extra backs really do add bulk and weight to camera especially when you mount it on a helmet.

My compact GoPro stand

March 2, 2013

Above: Some useful support for the GoPro...Manfrotto Compact tripod

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to camera support...my primary stand is an uber-expensive imported Miller DS20. Shameful, I know. Having been forced to use dirt cheap Manfrotto tripods during previous employment I...well, hate the brand ("Hierdie f&%#!!n ding is vrot!").

But this little compact model caught my eye today and it is perfect for the GoPro. It folds up small and straps to the side of the camera bag and i...

NWU School of Music — Spring Ensemble Concert

February 15, 2013

I find myself doing more and more of these short-form news/doccie clips and I'm really enjoying them, this one for the NWU's School of Music in particular. There's something about taking a few hours' worth of complete randomness and turning it into a story that has always appealed to me. So is working with talented people - I was surprised to discover that a lot of these students are not only capable of playing one instrument, but a couple of different ones! Also have a look at the young viol...

More GoPro jets...F/A-18 cockpit footage

February 14, 2013

You can never have too much GoPro...ever :)

I picked up on this one through gizmodo.com. Awesome cockpit footage (although the soundtrack is not really my flavour...sorry). For some reason these clips are often taken down quite quickly from YouTube, so enjoy it while it's up.

New at MFM: Data preloading

February 8, 2013

Above: Purchased a lot of branded USB flashdrives lately? Well don't just give them away, make them actually work for you.

Branded USB flashdrives. Most large organisations use them as corporate gifts. Instead of just handing them out, have us preload them with your corporate video or interactive presentation. We can now preload your existing USB media with any files of your choice. The same interactive media that runs from DVD-ROM and miniDVD can now also run from your branded USB storage ...
