Mobility. Priceless.

October 30, 2013

I shot some green screen this week for Optentia at NWU Vaal. Honestly nothing beats the ability to be able to shoot footage and edit it immediately on site. Instant results. And I'm still raving over the results I'm getting with the FS100... wow!

The value of mobility? Absolutely priceless.

Giving back

October 27, 2013

Match Frame Media recently had the opportunity to lend a hand in our home town Parys by supporting a very worthwhile local initiative. Producing this was a priviledge and so is living in a small town in this very scenic part of the world.

Filming on the move in Botswana

September 24, 2013

Above: having loads of fun in Botswana. GoPro running, of course.

You might have noticed that this blog has been quiet for quite a while. And you would be right. The reason for that was an awesome two week adventure through Botswana in August, followed by a ridiculously busy time with back to back projects upon my return in September. And finally some sadness with my mom passing away a few weeks ago. However life goes on and so must this blog.

Filming a 10-day motorcycle adventure through Bo...

MediaTech Africa 2013

July 21, 2013

MediaTech 2013 has come and gone. The exhibition showcases everything current and new in the broadcasting and AV technology fields from all the top brands and suppliers in South Africa. I used the opportunity to hook up with a few of my suppliers and had a look at the latest Avid Media Composer release. MC 7.0 now supports 4K media and a host of cool new features such as background transcoding and improved audio RTAS functionality from the timeline.

DSLR and cine-oriented cameras such as Sony...

Solar power on the go

July 2, 2013

If you've been following my blog you'll know about my fascination with solar power.

For an upcoming two week trip through Southern Africa I'm faced with a rather unique challenge - film a motorcycle tour with multiple GoPro's for ten days without being close to any type of power outlet to charge the camera batteries. The obvious solution, other than charging batteries from the bike's power outlet where they will have to compete with other devices such as my mobile phone and helmet comms unit,...

July 1, 2013

A fresh one has arrived, complete with pink foam.

My new Sony NEX-FS100 camera has arrived all the way from the factory on the other side of the pond. Many thanks to the guys at Jasco Systems for really going the extra mile for me by loaning me a camera while this one was on backorder. Rupert you guys are awesome!

Don't you just love the smell of new gear straight out of the box..

More GoPro

July 1, 2013

There is no such thing as too much GoPro footage. This one is helmet cam footage of a Canadian paratrooper's near miss with a pine tree.

Now you see it, now you don't

June 26, 2013

Hey, we all have our much-deserved dumbass moments. After more than twelve years of doing this for a living I still have mine. I actually had one right here (above). See how nicely I framed the shot, with the windsock growing out of the top of his head? Yes. I know. How did I not notice that..?

Anyway after I stopped kicking myself I fired up After Effects and opened up the paint tools. The repair is, fortunately, absolutely spotless.
